Dear Teachers and Parents:
I used to teach full time in Missouri public schools for thirteen years. I was a classroom teacher in third, fourth, and fifth grades. I was also a writing specialist in Francis Howell School District in St. Charles County. I used books constantly in these positions to teach objectives and supplement my classroom materials. I also read aloud to my students on a daily basis. When I moved to central Missouri and taught in Boonville, I became a Title I teacher. This was the first teaching position where I really used the Internet to find lesson ideas , activities, and questions to go with books I was using with struggling readers. A whole new world opened up to me when I didn’t have to reinvent the wheel every time I taught a new book.
Because of my experiences, I started a blog called, Margo Dill’s Read These Books and Use Them. Follow this link to my blog, and you will find pages upon pages of books with activities and discussion points to go with them. You will also find various teaching ideas and ways to make your lives simpler. If you home school your children, more power to you! I admire you and think my blog can help you as you prepare lessons for your own children.
When Finding My Place comes out, it will have a resources section in the back of the book for teachers when you use this book with your students. There will also be more activities on this website page to go with the book.
Until then, please check out Read These Books and Use Them. Another great website for teachers is Bright Hub, where I am a writer. I have written articles on Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax , Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and the classic Charlotte’s Web (as well as many other books). Click on the links to go to the articles, and you will see other articles I wrote in the same series. The Education hub on Bright Hub is full of lesson plans in math, science, social studies, writing, and reading as well as teacher tips for regular classroom teachers and special education teachers.
If you need to contact me with any questions or suggestions, please do so at margodll [at] aol [dot] com.
Thanks for stopping by,
Margo
