Today, I have author Jennifer Rustgi telling us about her picture book, Much Too Much and the Kickstarter campaign she has started to help fund her dream. If you are not familiar with Kickstarter, please read on to find how it works. I hope you will be inspired to help Jennifer and Molly fulfill their dreams & bring a beautiful book into the world!
Margo: Tell me about your picture book, Much Too Much. What’s it about? Who’s the audience?
Jennifer: Much Too Much is a rollicking, rhyming, counting (backwards) story, with a twist! It’s about one precocious little girl’s idea of the perfect birthday party and her realization of what truly matters. Our target audience is ages 3-8. However, the vibrant illustrations, fun story, and rich language will appeal to wide range of ages.
Margo: Ah, yes-this is something we are always trying to teach our children! Are the illustrations complete for the book? Who did the illustrations?
Jennifer: Molly Allen is the illustrator, and she has done amazing work! The vast majority of the illustrations are complete, and she’s putting the finishing touches on the rest as I type. You can see more illustrations in our Kickstarter video here.
Margo: So, as you stated above, you have decided to do a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to publish the book. What made you decide to do this?
Jennifer: I have been aware of Kickstarter and several of its success stories for some time now. It’s a great platform for creators to gauge interest in their projects and get upfront “orders”. It’s really a win-win proposition for both sides. We get the upfront funding to “kickstart” our book project, while our backers can get a copy of the book and other great rewards, depending on the pledge level they choose. For example, with a pledge of $25 backers get a signed, first-edition copy of Much Too Much.
Jennifer: Funds raised will be used to cover the cost of printing and shipping of books to the backers, start up fees, and initial marketing of Much Too Much. Any amount over our stated goal will go toward filling the additional book orders, marketing and getting it out to more readers!
Margo: Awesome! How can people donate to the Kickstarter campaign? Is it easy?
Jennifer: It’s super easy! Simply click on the pledge level that you choose, and you’ll be led through a few quick steps to complete your contribution. [Link for the Kickstarter campaign: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/muchtoomuchbook/much-too-much-childrens-picture-book]
Margo: Anything else you want to add?
Jennifer: Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing platform. We only get funded if our goal is met. You only get charged if we meet our funding goal. This ensures that the backers get what we promised.
Margo: Thank you, Jennifer. I hope you all have enjoyed the beautiful illustrations and story Jennifer and Molly have created here. Help them out with their project for as little as a $1.00 pledge. Anything helps! Remember for $25, you’ll get a signed picture book for a special child in your life!
