I am very excited to welcome Gloria Loring and her new book, Coincidence is God’s Way of Remaining Anonymous. Many of you will recognize Gloria for her fame and accomplishments–she starred for six years on Days of Our Lives as Liz Chandler. (Last night, I read a synopsis of Liz Chandler’s storyline on a soap website–goodness, Liz was married, unmarried, married, changed careers, dealt with both Stefano and Tony, stranded on a desert island with some of the Bradys, and more!) She also had a hit record in the 80s that I know MOST of you are going to remember and then be singing all day when you click on the YouTube video below. Lucky for my family, I have been. It’s “Friends and Lovers.” She was married to Alan Thicke (Growing Pains) and had two sons–one is now a superstar singer himself, Robin Thicke, who was a judge on the recent show, Duets, with Kelly Clarkson! (Everyone knows the American Idol fan I am.) The other son’s name is Brennan, and he figures prominently in the book!
But all of these accomplishments/connections and all the music and talent that Gloria has brought to the world are not the reasons I’m excited to have her with me today. She PERFECTLY fits one of the themes of this blog: “Helping women and children around the world.” Gloria’s son, Brennan, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when he was a child, and Gloria decided that she wanted to raise money for research–a million dollars, which she did. She also learned to listen to the coincidences in her life and grow a special relationship with God. And this she chronicles in her new book, Coincidence is God’s Way of Remaining Anonymous–it is part memoir/part self-help/part inspiration. She does relay some stories from her own life, but mostly these stories show how coincidence worked in her life, and then she gives you tips and help for how to allow these amazing things to happen in your own. I found her to be very uplifting!
I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book because of the WOW! blog tour, and I would really like to pass it on to a lucky winner. So, please when you are done reading this wonderful interview with Gloria, fill out the Rafflecopter form below. (U. S. and Canada mailing addresses only please.) The giveaway will go until Friday, April 5. And if you don’t win, you should consider buying this book for you or a friend. It would make an EXCELLENT Mother’s Day present!
Read on for an interview with the gracious, Gloria Loring!

Margo: Welcome, Gloria, to Read These Books and Use Them. I’m so excited to host you and your book on my blog. What inspired you to write this book?
Gloria: I had a series of extraordinary coincidences that transformed my life and my perspective. Inspired by Albert Einstein’s quote, “Coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous,” I began writing the autobiographical elements of the book in 1998. Twelve years later, I completed what had become a deep and lengthy exploration into the mystery of coincidence. I read books by physicists, world renown spiritual leaders, saints, and sages. I shifted from telling my stories to using my own life as evidence for the beneficial workings of coincidence. Readers are saying that this book is helping them, changing the way they view their lives–so my goal of bringing value to others is being achieved.
Margo: That is so terrific! I think that just by picking up the book & reading the title and your introduction, I started looking at coincidence in my life, too! Can you give us a couple of examples of how coincidences have played a part in your professional and/or personal life?
Gloria: Coincidence played a part in my raising $1 million for research after my son was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes (Chapter One), brought “Letters from God” from a woman in Nebraska during the secret unraveling of my marriage (Chapter Four), provided my #1 hit song “Friends and Lovers” (Chapter Five), led me to the healing of childhood sexual abuse (Chapter Nine), and brought me my husband of nineteen years (Chapter Twelve).
Margo: Awesome! And it’s easy to see by your list here that your book can help women dealing with many different issues. You are such a survivor! How do you think women can use your book to improve their lives? What can they learn from it?
Gloria: We can benefit from knowing how to use coincidence, whether it comes as a fortunate opportunity or a warning that something is wrong. When a coincidence gets your attention:
- Determine if it has a message for you. Does it peak your interest, nag at you?
- Discover if there are additional clues. Is there a pattern? Have several people or events brought this to your attention?
- Define the message. What is it asking of you? More patience, forgiveness, kindness, love? What is it guiding you toward? Is there something it is asking you to do? If so…
- Do it!! See what happens! We learn to trust coincidence and intuition (the inner form of coincidence) by using them.
Margo: Thank you so much for listing that out for us. I feel like I need to print it out and hang it on my bedroom mirror. What was your process like for writing your book?
Gloria: Immersing myself in the wisdom of saints, sages, and scientists has been pure joy. Writing this book has helped me deepen my understanding of my life and the many gifts I’ve been given.
Sometimes I wrote at the same time each day for months, then put the book aside, because I had too many doubts about what it should be and how I could do justice to such a magnificent concept.
When my vision for the book finally solidified, I wrote in a rush, making it a daily priority.
Margo: I’m so glad you did, and I’m sure there are many other readers that are, too. There’s no doubt you are touching lives all over the place! Anything else you’d like to add?
Gloria: In the thirty years since I first heard Einstein’s quote, every time I shared it, I saw people’s eyes light up, and I’m still finding that to be true.
Margo: Thank you, Gloria, for your time. It is an honor to have you and your book featured on my blog today.
