A Little About Margo Dill . . .
September 16, 2008 in Young Adult Novels
I am currently a freelance writer and editor, speaker, children’s author, and substitute teacher in East Central Illinois. I have a children’s book coming out from White Mane Kids, hopefully in 2009, called Finding My Place. This book is a middle-grade, historical fiction novel set in Vicksburg, MS, during the Siege of Vicksburg. More to come on that as the date gets closer. . .
I also own an editing business, Editor 911, where “Your projects are my emergency.” I edit and proofread any written documents from memoirs to term papers to websites. You can find out more about this business, pricing, and services at www.margodill.com.
I started this blog because I love children’s books, and I read and listen to a lot of them because I am a children’s author. When I taught full time in Missouri public schools, I constantly googled titles of books I wanted to read or order for my students to find out more information or activities to go with the books. There is no point in reinventing the wheel. As a parent, I am constantly looking for things that a boy will want to read. SO, I decided to start this blog to help teachers, parents, and librarians with these same issues I had trouble with as a parent and teacher. I hope you enjoy my blog! If you do, pass the word around. I really hope it can be useful to others.

Hi there,
I love the setup of your blog. I work mainly with teens and feel like this will be a handy place to find RA suggestions. Keep up the good work!

Hi Margo!
Love your blog. This is such a nice intro. I keep forgetting to tell you that after I told my daughter about your review of CRANK, she read it and loved it. Thanks! Cinda

Margo,
Your blog is full of great ideas for librarians, storytellers, and grandmas. I’ve passed the link on to the children’s staff at my local library. And I ordered Bad Kitty for my grandson. Thanks!

Margo,
Thanks for your comment. Regarding the phrase written heard throughout the book…it is just something I always say to Zack to let him that know he is not perfect and no one is, but that he is still a greatkid. It is just a phrase I would say to him often, especially when he was really down and feeling so hopeless. He lacks so much self esteem and has so much doubt in himself, he needs constant reassurance from his dad and I.

Dear Robin,
Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my blog. I love your book and used it often with my students when I taught full-time! They loved it, too. It’s one of those books I wish I would have written.

Hello Margo:
I read your post on Virtual Writers’ Conference. The clear step by step revision process that you wrote about helps me a lot. I am a stay at home mother. I have two boys, both toddlers. So I am constantly looking for good books and activity ideas for them. Your blog is an excellent resource for that purpose. I’d like to write for you about some of my sons’ favorite books. I have been reading Eric Carle’s books for them since they were 4 months old. One of them is four years old now and the other is two. One particular book, “The very hungry caterpillar”, we have read almost every day for the past four years! Somehow, they never got tired of it, and neither did I! It seems like his books never lose their appeal.
My own favorite picture book of all time is “The Carrot Seed” by Ruth Krauss and illustrated by Crockett Johnson.
Thanks for all you do.
